In Dragon age, they ran tournys, lasted I think a few days.

Different factions had different buffs. I.e., scoundrels get +50% health, or dmg. they'd pair it, like light side health, dark side dmg. etc.

I also seem to remember easter egg bonuses like 1 star character getting 1000% buffs.

They Def kept it interesting
