I didn't mean complete losses. Getting a score will not make your rank drop that much. It has to do with still placing defences. I know this because I have been losing 2 out of 3 battles every round and I am still within the same points bracket from where I started. If you hold back in rank intentionally and then dominate every battle after that, your score will go up much faster.
This strategy doesn't work for every player. I'm talking about the guys with impressive lineups that could potentially wipe everyone in the next bunch of matchups but don't because it's strategic to take everyone out in a string of easy wins.
In turn this upsets the balancing of the event and forces unfair matchups.
