Good post, many good points. Just a couple points I'd like to make. Many of us have been damn near begging EA to make the Empire competitive for a long time now. On more mature servers, things like Krennic, Veers, and even the new Tarkin do not work, period. When I say do not work, I mean finish 1st / 2nd and not lose 20+ rank over night. There have been some reliable leaks within parts of the community and Thrawn sounds incredible, we just need to see his base speed and other stats now. For those of use that have been biding our time on Empire, forcing us into Phoenix kind of sucks because we have to do it to get the character we've been asking for.
As for Phoenix being competitive in arena... perhaps on a newer server but definitely not on an older server. Those stats displayed in the video are a joke when I'm facing Chirruts between 260 / 270 speed, 90k - 100k GK's with 240 speed on them, etc. Phoenix wouldn't break the top-20 on my server, so once I farm them up for the Thrawn event; I now have 5 useless characters that I invested in for Thrawn.
So while I agree it's not impossible to get a squad in-time for Thrawn, being required to invest so much of my resources into a squad I will never use and then probably have no gear left for Thrawn really sucks.
It is called "bleeding you dry." That is the complaint, not that it can't be done. Imagine they make you invest in 6 weak characters to unlock every new fan favorite character. Let's look at the big picture here, they announce Lightsaber Luke is on the way, and then they run Thrawn's release with this.. if this works, we can guarantee new Luke will be similar if not worse. Complaints are about the bad ethics of this type of precedent being set.
Exactly, how many of us geared up hillbilly Luke for that event? And now Jedi Luke is probably August? R2 and Ahsoka just came out and took a lot of gear and now we have to gear not one but five and if we have to make them gear 11 for the Thrawn event, that is a hefty task in addition to getting them to 7-star. Stars shouldn't be as bad as gear at least.
I know some folks will say, "well you don't have to gear them up." And that is a valid argument, I agree to an extent. Here's the thing, this game has become so damn boring with the lack of content and triple cleanse ruling the arena that the very hint of hope that a new character will shake things up and keep things is interesting is a driving force to keep interest in this game. For those of us on the edge of boredom with the game, working on new releases is important, for those that it's not; then I guess their gear can be saved.
