Pilotless ships Vs Relic 9

Seems like the best way to "potentially address" it would be to tie a bonus to either the capital ship's relic level or the average relic level of all the other ships. Eg, GR Y-Wing already gets 15% protection for every other GR ship, +5% per relic level on the fleet admiral. Something like that. That way they can passively improve as the surrounding ships are upgraded.
Or maybe pilotless ships just need extra upgrade levels.

I like the idea of basing this on the capital ship relic level, more of an incentive to improve the fleet admiral.

But then they fall back into the initial problem of relying on a “pilot”. Easiest solution again is to not add relic 9 into the game.

there's no good solution since they created this problem themselves.

The fact that you have to gear up useless pilots is annoying in itself, but with pilotless ships you make the earlier pilot investments totally irrelevant if they are on par or better than piloted ships (fortunately or not, point of view, pilotless ships are not better).

Also some ships have not one but 2 or even 3 pilots so that's one more headache. I think they should either add pilots to pilotless ships or remove the whole pilot system altogether.

Make pilots the mods for ships ? Different pilot have different stats and piloting the correct era & ship get bonus stats ?

That's my idea, yes. But it's just wishful thinking, there is no indication CG is inclined to implement anything like this.

Correct, this is similar to asking for skins, it makes knowing what you are facing much harder. So, no this is probably the least likely option to be considered.

I hammered this point home pretty hard on the forums when they announced Tie Bomber and Y-wing (at least Hyena/vulture had a flavor reason for being pilotless), I recall using words like ‘lazy design’ and ‘future proofing?’ - it is nice to see it come up as a topic again.

‘Easiest’ fix is probably kit touch ups where they add a new (gated) ability upgrade to the ships, where they only unlock one new upgrade level for each relic level they push out. (So for right now, we could upgrade to level 2 and 3, and just have each level provide % stat boosts relevant to the ship in question, and probably at a healthy ship omega mat cost per level to somewhat mimic the gear expenditure of relic pilots).

Devs are looking into some potential ideas around this issue but even if it does happen it would not be in the near term.

I feel like that's already kind of the vibe of this thread, but at least now it's official. If I hear something more concrete, I'll let ya know.
