Yeah, OP, this is like old Avengers Allience tournaments, where the only thing that matters is %.
He's talking about 2 conflicting ideas:
In said game, they eventually made it you ranked based on a % OR a point threshold.
And the weak teams was because once defence teams became a thing, you could change them any time, and you got rewards for your first 5 wins, sometimes it's be a Lockbox, you collect covers from them, and at 8 covers, you got the villain-turned-hero (with some exceptions) as a result, in tournaments where that was, some would intentionally set a weak team to tank their ranking, so their 5 wins were against other easy teams, then fight like crazy after they got the new guy.
Not sure how those came together.
