This, while true, has one significant flaw: Unless people are willing to pay insane amounts, they are mostly stuck with one or two viable teams anyway, due to how hard it is to level/gear/mod anything. And with inevitable level cap increase, keeping up with the meta will become even harder. So the choice is basically this: Do I get my Droids to the top of their potential, or do I go farm the current meta, which by the time I finish will be obsolete anyway?
Not really. The longer you have been playing, the deeper your roster is - and generally the more viable.
The addition of the credit heist has made it possible to keep several teams viable - or at least close enough to move some mods, farm or buy a few peices of gear and roll out a new team. Just as an example (and I am not bragging, by any means - as a presume many are or will be in a similar situation) - I have 50 7* heroes. 13 are G11, while 18 are G10. That's 31 heroes to choose from - and many of the G10 heroes are probably just over a week away from G11 if I chose to focus on them. I am a guppy (spent about $50 - all on crystal refreshes + 1 initial $5 crystal buy since November '15).
My point simply is that is you play longer, you end up building a deep roster - and it's not nearly as difficult to "top off" a hero from level 80 and g9 or g10 to bring them up to 85+ and g11. Yes, occasionally, you will want (need?) to start from nothing but that's not impossible if you are really focusing on just 1 or 2 heroes. I just did this with Darth Maul - took over a month, but now at level 85 and G11 with max gear, he's a blast to play. Along the way I happened to drop enough raid gear to get EP to G11 as well - and managed to get B2 to g10 in the process (I was late on him too). Vader was already maxed and so was Shore (although now I'm farming him more stars).
Some have complained that there isn't an advantage to being a "long time player". I disagree - a deep roster, sometimes made up of heroes from metas gone by, is and can be a nice bonus. My g10 Dooku or G8 Sid might be dusted off now that Sith got a rework. I might even level up my 75 level Savage.
Who knows? If Nightsisters get a rework, my G10 Daka might see more than just GW.
Not to mention that there could even be a third raid somewhere down the line. Who knows what other factions might be needed there? And I haven't even mentioned pilots/ships...
I have run about 6-8 leads in arena with varying teams (not counting the Chewie starter kit). Phasma (like pac0nut - for a LONG time - especially with Daka and Rey) - Dooku, QGJ with Yoda when I first got him, Lando, then Wedge, EP and now Zaul. I have to be honest - I am having an absolute blast in this game right now. Is it easy to always keep up? Nope. Is it frustrating? Sometimes - especially when RNG causes you to lose to a team at payout that you've beaten already twice in the last week. But the game is fun - and that's exactly what it's supposed to be.
