PSA: Not everyone in your arena shard has the same payout time as you. Reddit repost

TL:DR: Few but not all people in your shard share your payout time. If you don't want trouble, don't attack people close to the top of the hour.
What this means: If you are not a part of a shard chat and are climbing the ladder during some other time besides 1 hr before your payout you could be making an enemy (who will be enjoying specifically targeting you in the future) by accidentally sniping someone. If that person is a part of a shard chat, you may be making much more than just 1 enemy. In my personal experience, if you are sniping people outside of your payout regularly, it does not take much to convince others to target you. Also, I realize this may not be as applicable for people not in top 25-50 or so, but is very applicable to top 10.
How payouts are different
The payout time depends on time zones. Specifically, which time zone you were in (and what time of the year since it doesn't change for DST) when you started the game. It will always be 6pm of the timezone you are in when you start. It will vary to either 5pm or 7pm due to DST.
I thought this was unnecessary but the number of people who have joined our shard chat recently have proven me otherwise. If you're not in a shard chat, I would highly recommend trying to find one via the official forums or the occasional thread on here that pops up.
Ok, so I did not anticipate a lot of people interpreting it the way they did. I am not trying to say that people can't play when they want to. Sometimes life happens and the only times when you can play is inconvenient for others. Myself, those in my shard chat, and I'm sure most others understand that life happens sometimes so we don't target people just because they sniped us once or twice. But, it's not hard to see if it's happening consistently. Again, I'm not trying to say you can't play when you want to. However, also don't try to pretend that your actions never have (or should never have) consequences. If you are sniping people out of their payouts regularly, whether on purpose or not, if they care people will do what they can to prevent that. I'm not saying this is something that should be happening or not, merely that it does. You can prevent all of this by creating/joining a shard chat because then you can know when people's payouts are so that you can try to prevent targeting them. Plus, it can make your gaming experience much more fun. I am really glad I found some people on my shard, it has opened up a new community to talk about the game or critique each other's arena teams. We're pretty chill for the most part... except in cases where people are regularly sniped. If you're not apart of a shard chat, and usually attacking people 10-15 minutes before the top of the hour, consider waiting until after the top of the hour instead.
Edit: Here is the official forum link to shard chat searches. Make sure to use their search function before creating your own because someone might already have made one for your shard: https://forums.galaxy-of-heroes.starwars.ea.com/categories/pvp-and-rivalry

  • And as long as these are extra battles? It is not hurting anyone. Spending extra battles after payout is dumb. Ur hust hitting people that will climb thru u tomorrow, before ur payout. The only use is for group to make the kill list miserable.
  • Having the fastest car doesnt make u the best racer. If ur a granny clutching klutz under pressure, u will lose to the slower car more often than u should.

Arena is the only competitive part of this game. working together so you can claim to get first is out right funny. I'll play when I want and make people mad and sit at 54 if I have to.

"competitive" and "vindictive" mean 2 different things my man.

The funnier thing is you're not making anyone mad. They don't want to knock each other back - you're just hanging a sign on your back that says "KICK ME!" - and they are delighted to oblige. :D

You're making they're day by volunteering. Keep up the good work.

This is so true. I love to hit the "wild" players.
  • Meh. There are a core group of people in my group who maintain vendettas. They carefully initiate the new players. This is one of the first things we are "taught."

"These dudes: X, Y, and Z (but we call them "@#$@head, @$#@face, and @#$#weed) are on the kill list. Hit them whenever you can."

I see some of the new players initiates immediately picking up on this with "I hit @#$weed! Knocked him to 12!" Which is immediately rewarded with praise.

Only one ever bothered me, and it was only a couple of times whenever he got a new toon and "tested" his squad by sniping my payout. I do not hold anything against this dude, at all. This gave me a look at the new toons and made me come up with a way to beat the new squad, whereupon the sniping immediately stopped once he saw I could beat it and that I knew how to use the clock. I think most of my group really never learned how to defend themselves. They just learn how to cry to mommy and get a vigilante posse together. One guy can't screw up your payout unless you s#%k. A group of buddies and their noob initiates, otoh, can ruin anyone they feel like, under guise of being "the good guys."

The other guys, I have no clue why they are on the list. I take no joy in hitting them. And whenever I have, and they are active, I notice they climb around me instead of retaliating. It's like they have no clue when my payout is. If they knew, they would have climbed back thru me as the biggest jump... I was just using an extra battle, dude. (this is exactly what people IN the group do to each other, all the time, lol. Dunno how many times I burn a battle and the guy in the payouts after me attack right back.. nice) Or maybe they have been cowed to the point they are just trying to scrape by. I don't announce it when I do hit one. I don't participate much in the group chat, at all, really.

Just cuz I play nice and respect other peoples' payout (and my own payout cohorts) doesn't mean I signed on to the deputy posse to fight other peoples' grudge battles. I've seen first hand how I was campaigned to be added to this list..... despite playing nice. I don't blindly join in on hate to get a high five.

If there is a current issue with one of these guys sniping u out of his zone, and u are too weak to deal with this urself, ill hear u out. Just cuz he has history of doing this months ago is not gonna get me on a bandwagon with a pitchfork. The hatfield and mccoys? They were all dumbazzes.
  • Yes, your specific shard chat's situation may or may not be ideal.

In my personal opinion, and the consensus of my shard chat, people who share payouts can decide among themselves how they want to operate during their payout times and those decisions shouldn't affect anyone else.

If people in chat blacklist someone who doesn't deserve it, that sucks. Blacklisting should not be taken lightly especially if it's against people who are also in the chat. However, ranting in this thread is not productive to your situation.
  • I don't bother hitting people near their respective payouts .. what's the point of making enemies who can mess with you as well for no reason? Now if someone in another payout is messing with you ... that's another story.
  • What would be productive. It's obvious a culture on his shard and he's letting everyone know the only way he can.

Thanks. It's Marxist communism over here. All hate and power and control and fragile egos at the top. Flexing muscles under thin guise of fairness and sharing and happy happy happy, looking at each others l33t squads that are never going to be used the way God intended.
  • I have joined a shard fam and they are all great, we miss a few guys but we don't atack around others payoutime it's win win
  • lol @Sunnie1978

Just to stand up and defend my cohorts in our shard: we do not arbitrarily blacklist players, we have a group with over 25 people in it, and there are 2 players outside of the group who consistently snipe outside of their payout, for no good reason. We have tried reaching out to both of them, one of them basically told us to stick it where the sun don't shine, and the other we were able to get in touch with his guildmates through facebook, and they proceeded to give us fake links to their whatsapp group, and then ignore all our attempts to reach that player. We have several in our shard who are not in our group, we know their payouts based on watching what they do, and we leave them alone, and they leave us alone. Outside of that, any time we "gang up" on someone it is to help protect our friends. You want to say that this means they don't know how to defend? That's your opinion, though to be honest, there is no longer a real strong defense in this game. Any team in the top 30 can beat any other on offense, so if someone is going to be a **** and snipe our friends from 1 to 5, we will do something about it. If that person ever actually tried to get a hold of us, we would happily bring them into the group and all will be forgotten. In fact, that has happened several times over the past year.

In the end of the day, these shard groups are a great way to get to know other people who play this game we all love to hate, and we are just trying to have fun, while maximizing our rewards. It is only when players come along who clearly don't feel that way that we stand up and do something about them.
