Quitter turned silent lurker, false hopes?

Subject says it all, payed since the beginning, quit on the 10 year anniversary (Coliseum and RD was the final deal breaker). I was (obviously past tense) a spender and enjoyed the game immensely, so much so, I had 5 accounts total. I absolutely loved the "Star Wars* aspect of the game and the strategic place or counters and mods.

I know, I know, I am a quitter. I have been playing other games and enjoying my time and spending money (in said apps). BUT, my love of Star Wars and the memories of playing this game for so long and my absence, this leaves me hoping, maybe, just maybe things have gotten better?

I have been a forum lurker since then, just looking at the forums alone, it is hard to tell the general state of the game. The constant posts of concept ideas, Foreign language Airline FAQs and random grumbles, but everything else seems quiet?

The negative feedback about the major 10 year anniversary updates, the drivel of "I'm leaving" posts (or threads) are non existent (I'm guilty of that) but I'm honestly interested.

Is it worth coming back? Or are things unchanged and people adhered to the "put up or shut up* or, just left all together?

I mean, sadly, it seems that's the path of all aging games? The major things that keep this Titanic afloat is the Star Wars name (that keeps nostalgic long time players emotionally invested), the fact that the game was and is kept afloat this long by whales and is backed by EA, and lastly, it is the only mobile app Star Wars game.

  • It’s in a funny place. The new Era system still looks work in progress but Coliseum has gotten more enjoyable over time as toons develop. It’s also let them auto ban cheating players which should make the early game experience better, and there’s been some banger rewards give out for anniversary quests and the Maul unlock.

And while I’m sure there have been a lot of players quit, the surprising thing is there have been far more returning players (you can see this in GAC signups and anecdotally in LFG posts).

However they’re still chronically overdue an update to GAC and TW and something fresh in ROTE, but hopefully that comes later this year.

And relic delta’s still a pain in the @ss and the D4/D5 multipliers are too high but you learn to live with it.

  • If your account is below 13M where you still have toons that need gyros, etc, then Coliseum allows you to bypass gear requirements for new toons, allowing you to catch up on old ones.

Coliseum is a clear win for these players.

If your account is above 15M and you don't mind (or like) spending, then paying a bit of money for new toons + the era pass will get you a lot of r10 mats, and that can net you significant advantages in PvP while at the same time being a QoL improvement in places like TB where it sometimes feels like there's too much to do and being able to place a few more battles on auto is increasing peace of mind rather than decreasing fun.

If you aren't willing to spend and you've got very few or zero toons left to get to g13, then the coliseum is a lot of work for basically nothing. The r10 rewards are enough to do a couple per year, which doesn't let you do full teams for increased auto pays in PvE. Bypassing Kyros or other core gear doesn't matter bc you likely had thousands sitting around anyway.

It's a truly depressing update for non-spenders in this valley. No benefit, but more to do each day, with pressure to do well since you don't want to miss out on r10 and as bad as the rewards are, one r10 every 3-4 months is very much better than one every 5-6.

And, of course, they're going to require r10s for the next cap ship and all future GLs. That means I don't even get to place any r10s. I'm just holding on to the materials so that they don't announce a new GL and make me wait 6 months (or 12 for 2 or 3 r10s?) to get the latest shiny.

Since you said you're a spender, you might have fun if you come back. The update really has worked out well for most people. Just not for this one significant hunk of players who have been loyal and played for long enough to g12 or relic all their toons, but who don't spend on every new character -- or at least not enough to break into the top 30 or so players in their Coliseum shard.

Hope that gives you a fair overview of where the update worked and didn't so you can make a good decision for yourself and your various accounts.

  • Speaking as someone who rage quit over the GAS event (remember the ridiculous RNG?) and came back a couple of years ago I can tell you I regret it.  There was a brief high when LSBs came out and I started making progress but all the problems don’t go away.  They don’t improve the game, just the ways in which they can monetize it.  Even the seemingly generous stuff like anniversary quests and absurd amounts of Kyber LSTs in the Maul event (I loved it but still absurd) are only there to keep stringing along people who are on the verge of quitting.  If you’re out, stay out.  Enjoy the new game or games while you’re in the honeymoon period.

Unchanged. And with the devaluing of our current GLs, that we’ve invested in, I’m getting much closer to that myself. I love Star Wars too. This game got me more interested in it as well. Unfortunately, it’s been such a disappointment recently that I even cancelled my Disney+ subscription in protest. I was really mad that day with the incremental difficulty adjustments, the RNG’s one-third drop probability have an effective drop rate of one-tenth instead, and the paywall for coliseum when they don’t even become effective toons for months.

It’s really disheartening to watch something with so much potential take the road that’s ill-advised. They must have massive overhead that’s shrinking the operating budget from operating more effectively.

  • Ah, Relic Delta. It was apocalyptic before it was released and after it was released? Not that big a deal. RD2 (R7 vs R9) is 10%.

The Era system basically turned out exactly as CG said at the beginning: most players are expected to reach Era level 65 and will gain the Era toons at G12 when they join the main roster. Sure, there are kinks to work out in the new system, but the doomsaying was, as usual, worse than reality.

Misfiring auto bans and the absolute mess CG has made of datacrons recently are bigger problems than RD ever was. RD ain't nothin'.
