1) There has so much time passed since the introduction of R9 and ppl were warning/anticipating an R9 requirement for a big release ever since R9 hit the table - plenty of time to save up the mats.
2) Profundity is described as an Executor rival ("designed to challenge these fleets ") so for now it seems like it's probably meant to be on the same power level as Exe and both fleets will be able to beat each other (besides the other counter(s) that will inevitably show up like it happened with Mal or Finalizer vs Exe).
