So retreating reset the ennmy squad state to before your battle, and still lockout your characters and count as a try. What's the interest then, except undoing critical messup like allowing a geonos...

the interest is to prevent you leaving the enemy in a better state than you found it. Be it having a bunch of turn meter that it didn't have before you attacked or they might have healed up more then they where when you started if attacking multiple times
