Shard Currency Changes(What happens to excess shards not yet converted?(no credits for 7* promotion)

I have several characters where I have more than 330 shards but I don't have enough currency to promote them to 7* so I can convert those shards in the shard shop. For example I have 395 shards of ...

As far as i read it there is no difference. Do it now or later. Bigger concern should be bronzium at this point.
