I believe the answer is "not everything is about you". The new shards help newer players speed up their capital ships and DV, and the extra LS/DS currency helps rush GL progression.

You'll have to reread what I said. It had nothing to do with complaining that new shards are available to newer players, etc.

Exactly. I have nothing against the shards being available for newer players or ones that don't yet have the ship at 7 stars. What annoys me is that once you do have them at 7 stars, the shards just stay there, completely locked. Meanwhile the stuff you actually need and can actually buy are placed lower. It's just like the Marquee reruns, If you already have the character unlocked, the event is nothing but a waste of space and unnecessary scrolling.
On the bright side at least, they're offering GL tickets, so I guess less node farming for Ahsoka.
