Ship Reinforces....Mauls Lurking Threat

Can someone explain to me what it means when a ship reinforces? And what triggers it?

I'm looking at adding Mauls ship to my rotation and I'm trying to understand how to best use his Lurking threat ability.
  • Whenever the opposing capital ship uses the reinforce ability Maul's ship will target lock the ship that enters the battle, capital ships can only add reinforcements if one of their ships has been defeated
  • Oh sweet. Ok. Thanks.

Thinking of using Slave 1, Fives, Rex, Maul and Biggs for starting five. Mace Capital ship or AA is the question
  • I run a Slave1, Tie fighter, FO tie fighter, maul and Biggs setup. Everyone is set to land a lock-on to proc Biggs taunt. Then Maul places retribution on Biggs. Suddenly Biggs is invincible.

With AA capital ship you get prot boost each time you attack out of turn. With Biggs counterattacks granted by maul and rest of the team feeding him a constant supply of target-locks to renew taunt he ends up with unending protection, while Slave1 wrecks enemy teams using his AOEs.

I frequently win without losing a ship. But high powered DPS and bad luck on landing lock-ons can take out Scimitar or Slave1 early, ruining strategy...
  • Run Maul with Sun Fac...give Sun Fac the retribution and watch the ability block rain down on the other team.

    Maul retribution on SF
Mad target lock and loads of protection for SF ship
Target lock means Biggs will taunt too
Hit with boba proton torpedos for damage and ability block
    GG
    :D

Another taunter reduces the maul retribution effectiveness since it will pull the ship out of stealth.

To use maul effectively you have to plan our your starting and reinforcements.

You can start with maul and biggs, since in many cases biggs can protect maul until he can use his ability (on biggs).

You can use maul as first reinforcement which will ensure he can use his special but sometimes your tank will be too week to be effective.

Rex also isn't a horrible person to put the retribution on, but in order the land the target locks enemies have to be unbuffed so against Mace it is a horrible plan.

That's because his special is unresistable, and undodgeable iirc. The downside is he grants allies TM.

I run Fives AND Bistan U-wing for easy Locks, though currently Fives is reinforce, I may swap FOTF so it doesn't just get one-shotted.
  • Vader's ship is pretty incredible for target locks. But the AI tends to target him first.
