Ships dependent on characters??

So will ships be better depending on the characters Level/Star/Gear? Meaning if i have a 4 star Biggs, will his ship be unlocked and 4 star? Will the ships be dependent on the character which will h...

If ships need gear I would think they would require separate gear which seems like a lot of work. That's why I was thinking it would at least be based on the character driving the ships. Maybe it's both. Part of it depends on the character that goes with it and part of it is separate.
