No one is pretending that. But going second doesn’t always confer as much advantage as you think it does in all contexts.
What people are critiquing, is that it would be unfair to enact a time-based bonus, that some people will be unable to take advantage, because of IRL time zone and life schedule differences.

Suppose I let you pick your score for the round out of two bags. If you pick the first bag always gives you 1600 points. If you pick the second bag you have a 50/50 chance of getting 1400 points or 1800 points.
You would definitely want to wait to see your opponents score first. If they score 1700 points you aren’t taking the automatic 1600 points. If they score 1500 points you would pick the first bag every time.
Pretending there is no benefit to knowing your opponents score before you pick the bag is a joke, even if on average the bags give out the same amount of points.
