This is actually the most diversity I've seen at the top. Sith, Empire, Rebel, Rex teams. Have even seen FO and a droid team somehow sneaking into the top 10. So many different team comps at the top.
I wouldn't say the meta is diverse though. The top teams are all centered around a small handful of overpowered zeta/leader abilities with a handful of other overpowered characters as fill ins for one to two spots. Over the past few months, 90% of the characters in the game have gone from "okay to use in certain situations" to "completely terrible."
Do you have a solution to your problem? If so, please offer it.
In my opinion, there has to be a balance between power and diversity. Have you ever played a game that has a large number of characters and all characters are the same power? I have, and game like that get boring really quickly... there's no point in farming, leveling, chasing characters you like because everything is the same. Power differentials limit diversity, but provide motivation to play. I think EA has found a nice balance in the current meta.
I would recommend that they expand the game outwards and not upwards with the abilities they create as they introduce new characters or rework others. The power creep that we saw with the wiggs triple assist/unique was a cheap, toxic design that allowed people to be lazy and the power creep that we're seeing now with some of the anti-crit abilities they've created to counter it is also a toxic design that allows people to be lazy.
There have been some cool mechanics that they've introduced--daze and stagger are two examples and I think there are more that could be introduced such as critical damage down debuff or retribution mods to make the game more interesting. Rather than working to build the power creep upwards, they should be building it out.
Ultimately, I think the game is fun when I can think theory craft different ways to fit a new character or existing characters into my roster to improve it, not when it's an endless grind to level up the newest and greatest toons.
