So why have I just been Relegated

How is it a positive change? Nobody answered. I'm not that bothered with my situation, even though it totally doesn't make sense. Since being in Kyber 4 I've gone 4/3 and above the skill rating for Kyber 5. Yet demoted and getting less rewards than my fellows bracket. I may be stronger than some of those that won in my bracket, as they could have had a weaker match up.

It's just totally nonsensical.

The question still remains.............how is this a positive change or a change that makes sense?

Probably no one has a reason to state it's a positive change. But so what? Why does it have to be a positive change? And positive to who?

Neither better nor worse - just different. Your matchups are the same as with the previous system. The new system only affects rewards - you lose a bit when demoted mid-GA and you gain a bit when promoted mid-GA compared to the previous system. The end result is more or less the same amount of rewards.

It'd be nice if CG could, you know, actually communicate properly. They snuck in this rather massive change with no explanation as to why. For wanting to be so candid about the new Grand Arena setup they've sure changed a great deal of it with no explanation. I too lost the first round but got a "congratulations on winning!" message so I can see how anyone who got that, then got a "hey you've been demoted" message would think GAC is bugged (wouldn't be the first time either would it).

CG's hatred of in-game messaging, which every other mobile game does in copious amounts, has always vexed me. Especially when you consider they sure do love the numerous popups to buy packs that show up more and more frequently.

I would just wanna point out that they are altering the MM system after 4 months - which was barely enough to iterate that uncivilised, 10th century caveman idea of the very first, GP based ranking.

At some point you need to ask the question: do those guys over there believe for a second that what they create is actually good in any sense?

They have made zero changes to MM.

What's so massive about the change? Our match-ups are unaffected and our rewards more or less remain the same over time since rewards change both when promoted and when demoted mid-GA.

Well, they aren't integrated. You are promoted/demoted up to 3x during a week, but the MM was already done before any of that happened.
