I'd rather be surprised. Last minute farming a new group of toons from double drop nodes and different areas of the game is a lot more exciting than grinding for a month and wondering when they will be viable. If I only get a 5* Commander Luke because that's all I can manage in a week or two, I'll be glad I did it.
Just save some resources for the next few weeks. You don't have to devote every crystal to a Baze or every Carbanti to a GK the minute you get them. Just be conservative when you know something new is coming.
