The episode pass rewards accumulate to 4x red - 4x gold boxes. So yes, you'll receive few fewer rewards overall if you always archive red boxes in the GCs, but you can choose exactly the ones that will help you, instead of getting the 4000th green piece of equipment in the box. It is similar to the change in raid rewards a few years ago.
The GCs are not the only source of progress points, so you now only need 50% of the feats to get the same rewards as before.
Not quite sure what your expectations are, but they won't change anything until the next episode.
Without pass you cant full free tract so you cant even take omicron basicly 4000 green piece of equipment into 0 and not giving omicrons the best update of all time
