The Increasing Pace of New Character Releases is Becoming Unmanageable

Hi everyone,

I wanted to bring up a concern I have about the current state of character releases in the game. While I appreciate the constant flow of new content, the pace at which new characters are being introduced has reached a point where it's becoming increasingly unsustainable for many players, myself included.

The cycle for releasing new characters, combined with the ever-increasing resource demands to fully farm, level up, and gear them, has become a real problem. The amount of time and resources required to keep up with new releases is really massive, and for many players, this is starting to feel more like a second job than a fun hobby.

It's no longer just about getting the characters! It's about having the resources to make them usable.

On top of that, the time we have to familiarize ourselves with new characters and their synergies is incredibly short. In many cases, the latest releases just feel like a race against the clock, with the fear that if you don't prioritize the right character, you'll fall behind!

The situation is starting to become frustrating even for long-time players and I fear it might push away players who can't keep up.

The balance between new content and the time needed to enjoy it is critical, and right now, it feels like the game is tipping toward becoming a grind instead of a fun experience.

I'd like to see a more sustainable pace of releases that allows players the time to truly appreciate and experiment with new content.

Maybe reducing the frequency of character releases, or making some events more accessible, could help create a better balance between content and the player experience.

Has anyone else been feeling this way?
How are you managing to keep up?

To make matters worse, I’ve lost count of the number of packs I’ve purchased (actually, I can’t count them anymore, because I’ve run out of crystals).
And what did I get? The best I ever pulled was 50 shards... once!
That’s it. The return on investment has been extremely disappointing.
Rather than encouraging me to spend more, the overwhelming number of characters and poor drop rates are doing the exact opposite: they're discouraging me from investing further, because it no longer feels rewarding or manageable.

Looking forward to hearing everyone’s thoughts.

  • When they introduced the new system, they said it would be a new marquee once or twice per era cycle, each cycle being 4 weeks.

We've been stuck at twice per cycle for a while, and that does get overwhelming. The ships are going to be a nice break because they use different resources.

I'd like to see them average 3 toons per 8 weeks instead of 4/8. The extra 2 weeks could be used for a new ship or just skipped, but I do think the pace has been a little extreme.

That said, this is a resource management game, and having so many things in play that you have to make choices to manage your investments rather than just grabbing literally everything as it comes out isn't bad.

With the Pirate era we knew Ithano would become farmable first. Choosing not to spend crystals on him then spending more on the toons at the ned of the cycle so that they slow you down less would have been a fine way to time your pirates so that no one pirate slows you down too much in the quest for Hondo, but you're not spending the same resources on every toon when you know some will have more time to farm than others.

  • It depends on how you engage with new content. I focused on a few new squads for the raid, and slowly farmed the others. The focused push is more manageable and prioritises resources I am still hitting just under 7M. The slow farm means that I initially receive a 300k score, then have the option to push them later or leave them there to focus on something new. There are so many budget teams for this raid that not every requirement is needed; if anything, we have more choice on what to focus on.

Before the raid, I farmed GLAT but did not fit in Baylan, the requirements for which are now in calendars and being accelerated, so I can catch this up much faster. It has not hurt my account to wait but he is on my to do list as his requirements are great and I see he's an extra counter when I am trying to stretch my roster in GAC.

As someone who spent a long time catching up, since I wasn't a day-one player, I don't see a difference. Perhaps more is being released, but in six years, there has never been a way for me to farm everything that has been released at the point of release. I actually feel I can bring characters online much faster but I do have a strong gear and relic mat economy in-game, so this may help me keep up with higher relic requirements than newer players.

  • They literally announced a less marquee-packed Era as the response to this exact complaint from players, so the timing of this thread seems like a bit of a miss. 😅
