The New marquee

Question

I've been trying to figure out where I sit after day 1. I watched most of Ahnald's stream, as well as did the usual thing I do for new Marquees. (Too bad the new coliseum mode has limited replayability. the whole 1 damage thing when you hit the limit of your level is pretty sad. Although if it was too interesting, I suppose I wouldn't have time for all the other modes any more)

OK, rewind a second. 13 million GP, spent a bit once upon a time, but now do not. I do not need the new things until I can farm them and I mostly only relic toons to the upper levels when they are required for something like a GL. That has resolved most of my gear and relic crunch, and I can kinds just sail along hanging out in Kyber 2.

For me the game has become about managing crystals. I really only used crystals to buy (up to) 3 marquee packs on day 1, just enough to get a character to 4 stars, as that seemed to be the sweet spot for getting new shards from the marquee . With the various new assault battle formats, I often had a well advanced 5 star or 6 star character by the time farming them was available.

I did the same thing today with STL. then discovered I also needed to buy a couple of crystal packs of era gear and era currency in order to get luke up to some basic useful level (10 at the moment) . OK, so then I'm thinking its going to be 5000+ crystals per unit now instead of 4000 ...

Then I realized what I think is my error. The goal is to get to level 65, which will turn into a G12 toon at the end of the era. If I have no illusions of exceeding that, and upgrading him to 4 stars doesn't help much for the next 3 months... Instead of shards, Im probably far better off using those 4000 crystals to level him up at the start, thereby getting much better rewards for the entirety of the era.

Sure, when he becomes a 12 star toon at the end of the era, and becomes farmable.. my farm will be longer... but at this moment in time, that seems like a far more useful tradeoff. After all, if you don't have patience (or the money to replace that patience), you shouldn't be playing this game :-)

Doers that make sense? I think I've bought my last shard pack. When the next marquee come out, I think I'll try leaving it at 3 stars and put 4-5K in crystals into leveling it up. and see how that goes.

This whole system is new, so I could be very wrong in my current thinking.

I think the era levels are not worth investing in at all. If you are a long-time, 13M player, gearing new toons up to G13 should be essentially automatic on passive gear gains in other modes. The only thing era levels get you are gear levels when the era ends and more currency to buy R10 mats. But, if you're a long-time, 13M player, I assume you also don't chase for a ton of 100% maxed toons. So what are you going to do with some extra R10 mats?

For me, a long-time, 14M player who spent some in the past ($600 lifetime but not a penny since DCs were announced), my current plan is to farm the marquee shards/tiers like I always have, auto the coliseum battles to get the rewards I get, hoard R10 mats until they're required or I have a surplus, and let everything else fall in place.

Yeah, I've spent this time bc I really don't know anything about how this plays out, but I see myself spending less in the future, not more. AFAICT if you have a gear hoard, spotlight levels do nothing for you.

I'm not seeing a reason to play in the Coliseum.

Maybe.. I dunno :-)&nbsp; &nbsp; That was my iniital thought.&nbsp; Im going to try the next toon at 3* and see what happens. there is too much new material to be able to understand the longer term impact.&nbsp; Probably wont know which is right until Next march :-PMaybe the stars is still the right thing to pursue...&nbsp; It just never occured to me until I was looking at this that perhaps that has changed.&nbsp; &nbsp; We'll have to see how the other events effect things too. GCs are being replaced with some ERA level thing...&nbsp; higher era levels maybe have a more significant impact there...&nbsp; &nbsp; Its all so confusing :-)&nbsp;

I think that is pretty much correct.&nbsp; Looks like its going be a once a day thing to get on the leader board for whatever rewards, and to satisfy the daily quests.&nbsp; &nbsp;and that is about it.&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Seems like quite a development waste.

The only reason is r10 really. If someone doesn't spend a single dollar or crystal on eras, it will take more than half a year to get one single r10 (unless we get other means to obtain the r10 currency). Some players who might not be very skilled or super active will get even less and might not get even 1 in a whole year. I can imagine the next GL requiring one r10 unit. So basically a big chunk of the player base will be locked out of r10 for a very very long time.
