Well, ideally everyone would take a reward for the highest rank they reached that day. However, EA wants to limit the number of people to take the rank 1 rewards each day. Probably to promote crystal sales.
If someone is willing to take fifteen minutes out of their day to get the extra crystals (and stop others from getting rewards), I call that competition.
