TW imbalance stems from the GP formula

I think that the way GP is calculated is contributing to the issues some are seeing in TW.
As an example, my guild and our opponent are very nearly matched on GP (right around 130m). Because of how differently our guilds' platoons are structured they should completely wipe us out this TW though.

While my guild has almost 200 more 7-star characters, their guild has almost 300 more gear 12 and gear 11 characters! They also have 53 more zeta's than we do.

The issue is that my guild has spread around the gear and spent more time farming character shards for PvE than our opponent who focused on gear. With more total GP on characters under 15k we are fat bottomed. They are top heavy with more total GP on characters over 15k. Despite this overwhelming imbalance our two guilds have the same GP. If the GP were being calculated to reflect this power difference we probably wouldn't have been matched.
  • Well, our guild is undefeated and every TW now except for the first two, our opponent GP has always gone up. We've been fighting in the 80-89m gp bracket. Our current opponent is sitting at 107m gp. They have either 46 or 47 registered. It's impossible for them to drop into our bracket to be matched with us. Our previous two matches were similar and I was in touch with their GL and confirmed that they were in a higher bracket in active GP for the TW. So, it's not straight GP/brackets. My question is, if win/loss is taken into account (as I am strongly assuming it is at this point), where does it stop? Until you force a guild to lose due to continued harder opponents? I don't mind a challenge at all. But is our 90m gp guild going to hit 120m gp guild next TW if we win again?
  • The best way to do matchmaking would be to use the average arena rank of the guild. It's quite obvious that guild with 100m gp and average rank 40 will be superior to guild with 100m gp and average rank 150.

The calculation is not only based on GP.

    please elaborate.

@leef it's not much but here it is.

While some of the community has expressed concern over matchmaking, we’d like to detail the following:

    • Matchmaking is based on a variety of factors including the GP of units that can participate

I don’t think this is completely true. I looked at my guilds active GP before I joined and then after I joined. It added my entire inventory GP, not just those units that can participate.

Add: Unless the matchmaking is doing it behind the scenes. I’d like to point out that I’m not complaining about it being broken. How can one really say it’s broke if you don’t even know how it’s suppose to work? If someone would explain it, maybe some of these complaints would cease. All we know is that it’s a variety of factors. Very vague.

While I am not sure of the reasoning, I would speculate that they will never share the details of matching to prevent guilds from gaming the system

I agree...people complain about guilds supposedly gaming the system now, imagine how bad it would be if they knew exactly how to do it.

We all know speed rules. They will never modify GP calculations to reflect this because then it is admitting that speed is king and they don't want to do that.
  • Seems the easiest way to improve this is to make sure the rewards for losing in a bracket equal or exceed winning in the immediately lower bracket.

Why would they care either way?

  • Honestly what could help this whole thing is publishing what goes into the matchmaking formula. Regardless I think it needs to be overhauled as it seems results are never close, win big or lose big.
  • Support this.
I believe a guildies of mine with same GP with me can hold my entire roster with only 1 team lol.
