Speed
If you have higher speed than the enemy you will start first (add leadership and unique abilities of vader and ventress etc before the displayed speed)
Speed is king in arena/fleet arena hands down
Arena
Good combo is better than a bad combo (maybe reconsider a synergy) - I play an outside the box combo, but it certainly can be frustrating at times
At start Phoenix squad is doing well and is easy to farm, but easy to counter especially with <50 speed mods (at lvl60ish, every 5 lvl add +10 speed)
Fleet
Good combo is better than a bad combo
In generally avoid Ackbar at low brackets, better use Mace (good in defense together with Biggs and TM squad) or Tarkin
Biggs, both TIEs, Silencer and Vaders/Boba/Jedi Konsul is a nice combo
More difficult will be an AOE squad as you will require Millenium Falcon (difficult/long farm) and Ghost
But in generally maybe consider to post more of your layout to get new ideas from other helpful players.
