Understanding the players in the end game

CG needs to have a better understanding of the players that are in the "end game" of SWGOH.  They also need to better understand those that consistently spend money on the game and what is valuable to those players.

Case in point.  I'm currently at over 13M GP.  I have over 2K kyrotech of both types.  I would LOVE to buy the "Jawa Merchant Chance Pack" from the store.  But I, like many other payers at this level don't want to risk 2000 crystals with a 20% chance to get materials that we absolutely do not need at this point in the game.  Many of these gamble packs have the same fatal flaw.  Where I might have considered spending money/crystals, the chance of getting nothing of tangible value based on the current stat of my account will always keep those 3 wacky numbers safely tucked away.

Another example is the  Galactic Relic Mastery Vault 1 and 2 ($99, and $199):
I'm sure some players might buy this, but seriously, for $200 and there isn't enough droid brains for a SINGLE R9 upgrade!?!?  The pack only has 15 or 10 depending on which one you buy.  I point this out because it has very clear for me for a long time that CG doesn't know WHAT resources the players in the end game need and how to properly value them.

For those F2P players reading this.... I know you think its dumb to spend money on any game like this. I'm certainly starting to adopt this mindset, especially after spending $20 on Silksong and getting almost 200 hours of play time with the game.  Just understand that if it weren't for the players that are willing to spend, the game would cease to exist.  That said, it's important for CG to better understand the needs of the players that are willing to spend, what their pain points are, and to create items/packs that are more enticing for the players.

  • I do not regret my B-Wing investment.  And I’m about to not regret owning a Profundity.  I still think my best investment back when stormtroopers rode pteradons and T-Rex was king, was Teebo a Rancor Killer and a full HK 47 lead droid assault battle.

Well he paid for it and you didn’t. Did CommanderBarcara hurt you by doing this? No, I don’t think so. I’m free to play, so I am taking my time to farm for Profundity the free way, but I’m doing fine, it is just a matter of preference. CommanderBarcara chose to pay money, you don’t have to pay money too.

That's kinda the point.  Your not an idiot and won't buy these sorts of packs, and neither are more of the other players.  However, these kind of "gotcha" packs, that HAVE been in the game since day 1,  won't keep the game alive amidst an ever shrinking player base.   The point of my post is that CG needs to rethink how it sells things to active end game players that are willing to pay for things.

You’re fooling nobody here. Bit of a 360 that you’ve gone from your initial post to your current stance.

If you were the spender you claim to be then this is a non-issue based on your last post.

As for “ever shrinking  player base”, care to back this up with evidence?

Kind regards from a non-whale who has a bigger GP than you.

I do think, though, the only reason we don’t have ads for other games rn is because people have been spending. This gives us F2P players, as the name suggests, an F2P experience with no ads. Some of the things CG are not worth it in my opinion, but for others it was worth it for them. We don’t know the full reason they choose to purchase the packs with real money, so calling them dumb because of their decision, really isn’t our place too.

I regularly spend money on this game.
I have all GLs and every toon but 3 at relic levels. I keep 3 at G12 to farm mats. I have hit 18M points in the raid since it launched.
I haven’t changed my stance, I just think you might have read my initial post in a way that mischaracterized my intent.
My point is that CG needs to do a better job at creating these gamble packs that target end game players. End game players won’t spend for them if there is a significant chance of receiving nothing of value in return.  End game players currently only spend money on characters and ships. There is very little else in the store of value for them.
I don’t consider buying shard packs for toons or ships “gamble packs”. We know we’re are probably getting 5 or 7 shards per pack, with a minuscule chance of something more.  So, not knocking the investment into new toons or ships.
The data on sensor tower very clearly shows that the game is shrinking in players and in revenue. Check for yourself.

This, 14.m gp, the only really fo Conquest for DCs and any new toons. Slowly chip away at the new marquee characters, Haven't spent any money in a long time, just short of new GL Hodo no real excitement.

Do the raids just to participate for higher reward crates for lower level Alliance members.

There is no real endgame for the endgamers......

  • I feel spending habits alter as you progress, not sure how much of a read out they have on that. Early game bottle necks are where I focused money so kyro’s were my biggest purchase. But since 11-12M your economy picks up. New bottle necks are high relic mats and shards. But I tend to find way more value in conquest pass as I have a more mature roster, and I like the episode pass now. Not much in the shop is really enticing me in the same way the kyro’s did. I get the limited relic pack sometimes for crystals. Gamble packs with multiple characters lost value when you kept up with newer characters more which for me was 6M+. The gamble packs on the latest character can help you hit 5 star and max shards early on.

I have seen some experimentation, there were slice a bundle relic packs which let you choose your rewards at 3 levels. I just thought the price was steeper than my liking still but I think that’s because it removes the gamble element.
