Unfriendly game mechanics

I’m a free to play player I have been with this account for over two years, my previous accounts from the start of this game were deleted because of glitches but that’s another discussion that I’ve moved past of

my gripe is the clearly predatory game design that’s screaming out more and more demanding money from everyone for a chance to keep up with what’s going on

the new episode bull, the whole new assault battles that don’t include people you already have, the the old galactic challenges that used to be fun but now are tedious, the high requirements for new characters that f2p people won’t achieve for two years at least without dedication. All of this on a dying mobile game that’s running out of ideas

my question is why? You guys didn’t have to be like this and you don’t have to be so money hungry yet you choose to be. Why

  • Conquest units are definitely a right slog to get. Proving Grounds should award more shards...

I have two issues with this response.

    1. your problem seems to be as much related to lore authenticity as it is to the events and rewards. I don’t see how that is at all relevant.

    2. I can’t agree with your sweeping statement about how long it will take F2P players to get these new characters. It might take you personally a long time to get them, but there are hundreds if not thousands of F2P players who already have CX-2 at 5* g11 thanks to the Order 66 event. They’ll have him at relic level by July if not before.

I don’t think someone in a 200m GP guild should be worrying about the new raid. When new raids launch, CG have created a structure that allows guilds to push for the rewards appropriate to their level, which probably means running an older raid and earning much higher reward boxes for guilds still building their rosters up.

CG have to make the new raids / events require roster investment, because if they didn’t there’s too large a chunk of their player base could earn the best rewards without using any resources to get them. CG don’t want this, and I don’t think it’s reasonable to think badly of them for wanting the player base to keep collecting and gearing characters / ships.

This isn’t a new phenomenon either - it’s been like this for the 9 years I’ve been playing.

Sorry, I don’t think you did.

Conquest Hard mode rewards roster depth, kit knowledge and to some extent the ability to use crystals earned from other game modes to refresh energy.

Smaller accounts that have relatively recently become eligible for Conquest Hard mode taking longer to unlock Conquest units is not a F2P / P2P thing. There will be thousands of F2P who are unlocking the new conquest unit after 3 conquests every single time.

Full disclosure: for a while I was buying the Conquest Pass, but for the previous 2 conquest units I did not buy it at all.

  • My 2 pennies:

Firstly, didn't you answer your own conclusion (even if rhetoric) question very early in your post?

"All of this on a dying mobile game that’s running out of ideas"

"my question is why? You guys didn’t have to be like this and you don’t have to be so money hungry yet you choose to be. Why"

If it's a dying game, then surely they're going to milk the last drops out of it.  However, it's clearly not a dying game (in my eyes anyway) and this makes you come across with a grudge to bear and biased.

"the new episode bull"  I quite liked the new episode stuff, it meant I didn't have to do the worst feats in GC so much (which I despise with passion).  However, now they've added those new swish datacrons...... that's out the window.

"the old galactic challenges that used to be fun"   It did?  I must have missed that.  It's always being the drizzling poopoo to me.  I hate that it's time consuming, I hate that it's often bugged,  I hate that you can't see feats, I hated and hate everything about it.  I don't see how 'being fun' has changed.....adding p2p feats would have supported your argument, but doesn't add to the 'fun' value'.

" the whole new assault battles that don’t include people you already have"   Going to agree with this one.  This is annoying me too.  I guess I'm 'end game...ish', but in life I'm notoriously slow at keeping up or getting new technology.  I sort of play the game like that too.  This new style of pushing players to invest resources in the new marquees for a new super event that's better than old events is annoying me too.

"the high requirements for new characters that f2p people won’t achieve for two years at least without dedication."  As we progress, so does the 'power-creep'.  If new characters are better, so should the requirements, right?  New players have choice and can evaluate the experiences of players before them.  I don't see the issue here.  Unless, you're talking more about conquest style characters that appear to be totally walled to newer players.

  • Not entirely true, and not entirely correct.

You will initially be given sufficient resources to strengthen a squad, and we all know that it's definitely Squad Phoenix with Captain Rex in it. But, if you don't consistently want to gear up a character then of course you're going to burn out on all your F2P resources. So my advice, focus on what characters/squads you want to gear up. It will be easier, but if you want to make it easier then PAY TO WIN is the answer..😁

So much wrong in this thread.

Capital Games is not a non-profit organization.  They exist to be profitable, not only do they need to make money to pay the bills and maintenance expense of this game, not only do they need to make money to pay for their employee salaries, but they also need to be profitable above that to justify their investors' involvement.  And they should be.  They're completely entitled to charge for what they are providing (and you're completely entitled to choose to pass on that if you wish)

We should retired terms like "cash grab" and "pay to win" from our lexicon, and we need to stop labelling every real money transaction as "predatory".  There is absolutely nothing wrong with CG charging for their product (a product that would not exist without this monetization).  Furthermore, CG should be lauded for making this product so approachable to engage with for new players without paying, and frankly should also be getting significant praise for how they've handled paid players in this game.  They've intentionally made spending a more enticing prospect, not by making free life harder, but by providing reasonable value from their real money transactions and lowering the bar to entry (again in terms of real money) at the same time.  You won't fault a fast food joint that stimulates sales by lowering prices and adding bacon on their cheeseburgers would you?  Is that predatory?

The online community has suckled at the teat of anti-corporate, consistently negative, instant gratification with no effort social media drivel for far too long.  Posts like these are offensive.
