I haven't seen any evidence that's the case. Are you comparing the speed of your CLS to Vader? Because Vader gets bonus speed above what's listed in his stats, +8 for each Empire ally and +8 for each sith ally. This includes himself. So he always has +16 speed over what his stats list as a minimum. Then he gets +8 speed for each Rebel enemy and +8 for each Jedi enemy. CLS is a Rebel, but not a Jedi, so a total of +8 there.
So what you're probably seeing is that Vader is +24 faster than his listed stats, not that "event CLS" is slower than his listed stats.
I'm not a programmer or anything, I haven't looked at the code, so this is just a guess at what you might have seen. If anyone else has another hypothesis that might help QuickGoneJim, jot it down for everyone!

The event text says that ChewPO will scale with Chewie's stats, including mods. I wasn't sure if that meant that EventChewPO effectively gets the same mods as on your Chewie (so a +1 speed on your Chewie means +1 speed on EventChewPO) or not.
If I had failed a couple more times, my plan was to experiment with exactly that, I think many people have Legendary Chewie modded for moderate speed and high damage since he has so many assists. Mine is modded that way.
Since success depends on spamming the Blind ability, I think if anyone is struggling with t6 it would probably be helpful to do what you did and go for the speed build on Chewie for the event to get a fast ChewPO.
I can't guarantee that +1 speed to Chewie gives +1 speed to ChewPO, but I think that's likely how it works (to give people the ability to customize mods on their EventChewPO) and it is absolutely worth a try, even if it turns out later to be wrong.
T6 is the time to pull out that +150 speed set, people!

Yep. As I've stated, all my toons were r3 except Vader, who was only r4 (I would have tried with r3 Vader, but I boosted him to r4 a good long time ago).
For me the difference was killer offense mods with +100ish speed.
The event unit is slower by 20 points than my "real" CLS?

One thing I found is speed on Chewy (which feeds the 3bacca stats) was of great help in T6. I changed tactics and used fast 3bacca for the blind

T6 I had to take chewy to r4 to do it, though I was close a few times when he was r3 so I suspect it is doable
