What happened in August?

I've been reading so many jokes and references of August and I'm genuinely curious; what happened? What did I miss? :)

It's a "joke" that means that the devs are full of it because some content was delivered later than they originally promised.
Usually by the same people who complain that the devs never tell us any specific information about what's coming and when it will arrive.
