I like how people are using the outlier fallacy to 'prove' dark side is represented in arena. The fact is that dark side with a few exceptions is not represented in arena. Not a single dark side user left in my top 20, with a couple gear 12 maul teams creeping in the top 30 or 40. This is the least diverse I have seen my arena since the Wedge, Biggs, and Lando trio.
This is a 'freemium' game so to make money they continue to release stronger and stronger characters every few weeks or months to shift the meta back and forth. They want players to keep investing in new squads, and by doing stuff at short notice it causes people to rush to get there first, which they do by spending money. It is subjective with whether the 'power creep' is moving too fast or not. Personally, I feel it is, and I point the fingers at the Chirrut and Baze duo for setting it in motion so much as their utility and survivability is so great, and they have no zetas, and are the classic plug and play, in that you can put them anywhere and don't need a specific team to work with.
Currently I only see 2 particularly viable teams for top-end arena. 1 is the zeta Barris tank gimmick, and the other is of course Commander Luke, rebel teams with Kenobi.
I'm all for shifting metas, but I would much prefer if they gave people more options and reworked different teams at once so players can go different paths instead of feeling so pigeon-holed. And I finally jumped off the dark side train when Commander Luke was released as I got tired of feeling held back for deciding to use dark side teams over light-side. All my zetas were dark side up to that point. I did lackluster damage in raids compared to similar geared light-side teams, and I was behind in arena to teams that needed less zetas than me. Took a bit of catching up, but yesterday I zetad number crunch finally, and got 1st in arena for the first time since Luke was released. When Luke came out all the players that already had a double zeta R2 had an easy switch, but dark side users like me (I had a Nihilis lead team with 3 or 4 zetas) had a lot of catching up to do to get back at the top.
I even got first in HAAT for the first time yesterday. Before I jumped on the light-side train I was always rank 11-13 with 2 or 3 times just inside top 10. The only reason I placed first was because of my light-side rebel teams in phase 1 and 4. No thanks to my dark side teams...
With Thrawn coming back I am hoping that being able to 7* him will help the dark side teams a bit so only time will tell. Before he was very reachable at 5*, but not really above that without spending a lot of money. And, at 5* you can't use him in raids.
