You really can fit anything into your grand unified field theory, can't you?
It is said in almost every discussions in this forums by you and many others that the devs are working for profit, so basically yes."NicWester;c-1585902" wrote:

No, not every free stuff, just the crystals. Other free stuffs are makegood stuff or generosity.
What about the crystals we get as makegood gifts? That falls into both categories.... so which one is it?
I guess, Nic was talking about arena and daily activities, and I was reflecting to that. Makegood stuffs are makegood stuffs regardless of what they contain. But the amount in crystals in makegood stuffs are far from enough even for a single prototype, so if you want you can also regard these crystals as incentives. My previous example can be adapted to this situation as well: 'Hey, I got 500 makegood crystals. Cool, now I only need 150 to get a full Stun Cuff from shipments, so I buy a Pouch."
They could give us _anything_ even a full Mk12 Medpac, and they wouldn't lose anything. I don't know if this psychological aspect has an impact on their decision when choosing the makegood gifts, but it's still there. (I'm pretty sure that the regular crystal rewards were calculated by taking this into consideration.)
