Why should i place defense in the new GA?

We don't gain points/banners, in fact we would help our opponent being able to score points. I hope my opponent is kind enough to place more defense than i did. Or did i miss some crucial info?

I did place 1 squad in the first rows, so 2 in total.
My opponent can't earn banners for defeating squads if there aren't any. Or don't i get it?

No longer the way they will get max banners for each squad you didn't place so you just made their lives easier
