I like the concept of these events. Getting free character shards through events that don't eat up energy is nice. I have more cantina/hard node toons than I'll ever finish farming. Adding another 16 energy cantina farm is basically adding a toon I'll never get. This is a free toon farm that turns into bonus Zetas eventually. The concept is nice. And I never begrudge the devs need to make money off of the game. They have to do things to encourage spending. I know it's not a charity.
But the dichotomy of how hard they make things to acquire so people spend vs. not making it so miserable that people get fed up with the grind, and quit is a delicate balance. And I do think that this time frame is overboard. It's closer to 2 1/2 years after we wait the normal release cadence time period before the event returns, and then it's a little over 2 years worth of events.
If it was one year absolute max/totally free, and 6 months if you spent the 10,000 required crystals on refreshing every time then I'd be a bit disheartened at THAT time frame. But 2 1/2 years seems absurd. I hope that it's tweaked over time. Doubling the amount of shards you get from the event, and doubling the crystal refresh price accordingly will still suck up the same 10,000 crystals required to cut the time in half. People who can afford that will still spend the money to cut that time down. They may actually get MT while she's still somewhat relevant.
And free players who barely get enough crystals to do a few refreshes, and need to wait will not have to wait until after the next presidential election to see her 7*. Which is a big deal considering that 7* is required for raids, the hardest phase of TB, and gear 12. Also we need 20-30 dark side toons to even things out. Dark side TB will be unplayable for anyone but whales if it takes so long to get new toons.
Free players can turn into spenders if they're hooked in, and stay around. Make soul crushingly long grinds, and they quit. And staying ahead of the free players is part of why spenders spend. To many anti-F2P changes actually keeps spenders from feeling pressure to stay ahead. This by itself is not going to kill off F2P, but I think it's a bad precedent. It's a kick in the kittens to any player not spending 5-6 figures, and a step in the wrong direction that I hope is reconsidered.
+1. Elegantly put and on point.
