Those variants exist(ed), they just weren’t newsworthy. A Zeta variant being different and 4% more infectious than original Covid is noteworthy to scientists, but not really to the general public.

The information we have at this time is that they will not be changing the name, but will try to keep the reference as Omicron Materials, as much as possible.
