For the 5* mods in shipments, don't buy them with gems. They cost like 4K crystals. I always try to have 4mio credits to be able to buy one that I need.
If you consider that getting lvl74 earlier gives you early access to the syringe challenge and others, maybe invest in more energy. For 120 energy you should get ~3 shards, that would also be worth 100 crystals maybe.
