Break 200 in Arena?

So the game changers keep telling me that no matter what I think, I can break the top 20 in Arena. I'm finding that hard to believe, considering that it is virtually impossible for me to stay over 200 in my shard.
I have been farming Phoenix for quite some time now (based on advice I have seen all over the place, and the fact that numerous top-20 players in my shard are currently using them), and while I started moving up for a while with them, I seem to be at a standstill--unable to beat many of the teams in my shard. Here's where I'm at: http://swgoh.gg/u/yerffcaasi/squads/11858/
I would appreciate any advice you can give on how to improve such that I start moving up. I have found that I am unable to beat any Sith or FO squad, any squad with Chaze, and most non-NS squads. (I can beat NS squads consistently though.)
My full roster is here: https://swgoh.gg/u/yerffcaasi/collection/ I'm currently drilling on a Jedi squad (https://swgoh.gg/u/yerffcaasi/squads/15796/) in addition to my Phx.

No break, I can't explain that difference. But I'm F2P, if that matters...
I'm thinking I'll probably try to farm up an FO squad for Arena, now that KRU is farmable. Seems like a lot of potential there...

Have you been spending your daily refreshes on crystals. I started a new account on 22 November and am level 80. I've constantly been top 20 and usually top 10 so I've had a better crystal income which translates to more levels. If you haven't been spending daily crystals on energy refreshes you are falling behind more and more all the time.
  • Yeah, I guess I do need to focus on Mods. I've farmed them before and it's super annoying. The drops are bad. But I'll try.
And I'm dropping the Jedi squad too.
  • Bottom line is you just didn't get a good start on your shard and now it'll be an uphill battle for quite some time. You'll always be somewhat behind for quite a while, even if you farm mods right now the top 50 in your shard who've already maxed their phoenix at 7* will be farming the next best thing. This leaves you with two options, the first is you just stop focusing on arena and focus strictly on farming up all the squads needed for legendary events like CLS, Thrawn etc. If you manage to unlock a good squad and the mods to go with it then you may have a chance at getting into the arena again. Lots of players, even those with deep rosters, aren't in the top 200 let alone the top 50.

If you REALLY want to focus on arena, start over. Watch a few vids and plan out your energy usage. Grind phoenix to 7* first within a few weeks, then empire and so on.

    1st mistake:
You are level 68, but your Phoenix squad is only between level 60 and 65. If you lack credits for this then work on your scoundrels until you can do the highest tier of credit heist available to you.

Secondly you need to sort out your mods. You have 3 speed arrows — only 2 are on your Phoenix team. Furthermore, some of your best speed secondary mods (including your very best mod) are equipped by your sith:

Thirdly max out the ability levels of your Phoenix. F.ex. Zeb's Honorguard is only level 4 even though level 5 is available to you. If you train him to level 68, which you actually can, the rank 6 of the ability will be available to you as well.

Do you see? There are plenty of ways to improve instantly.

Yes, as others have mentioned, at some point you will have to switch to another team to stay competitive — but for now, you can easily climb the ranks with you Phoenix with the above improvements. And yes, you will also have to work a bit on your mods and progress in mod challenges or buy mods from shipments. Completing the highest tier of both health and defense mod challenges will make better quality mods available to you in shipments.
  • once you hit 85 you will see your shard for what it is. Commander Luke, Not being trained as a Jedi Rey, and some Night Sisters all top 100. The 100-1000 range will be Wiggs/Chaze/DPS, Sith, Night Sisters with 1zeta, some one offs like FO, Clones, Ewoks, etc. the 1000-2500 range will be everyone else with 75-85k power teams who don’t have the Current Metas.

Enjoy low level PVP while you can and invest wisely. Unlock your mod challenges, and remember, only you can prevent carbonite fires, only you...
