Conquest: Attempt to Inflict Armour Shred

Attempt to inflict Armour shred is different to Inflict Armour shred isn’t it?

I’ve just used Imperial trooper with Moff Gideon in the line up. I’ve just had a punch up with Phoenix squad in sector 2 (Hard) and Moff attempted to inflict Armour on Chopper and missed him (he evaded). As it’s an attempt, this should count toward the feat, yet it’s not counting as an attempt? Is this right?
  • Yeah, the player attempting to inflict armor shred is not what they mean. The actual game mechanic has to happen.

So if they dodge, the system does not get to the step where the debuff attempt happens.

Same for most instances where the attack kills them. The damage is applied before the debuff, then there is no enemy left to do the check.

There are a couple of abilities in the game where the sequence goes effect then damage, like Jyn Erso does her TM swap before damage, but almost every other ability goes damage first, other effects after.
  • Is it not then easier and clearer for it to say ‘inflict Armour shred’ rather than ‘attempt to inflict armour shred’ then?
  • Having it as attempt means that even if they have tenacity up and you fail to inflict it, you have still made the attempt, and it counts.
  • Oh yeah, but you're right in this case, armor shred is a locked one, so can't be resisted maybe? They are just using the same wording as for the potency down and any other inflict debuff feat.

    I thought Armor Shred wasn't resistable :-/

Maybe easier to understand. But it’s there in any event that the ability you attempt is resisted. I don’t think armor shred can resist either way, but it’s just the same formulation as other similar feats, like when you have to attempt to apply 30 damage over time in GC.

It's just in there like that to cover all the possibilities. All the other debuff feats have the same caveat (though armor shred isn't a debuff, it's the same principle). It's for the player's benefit.

Plus, I suspect it would still count it as an attempt if you were to try it on Kylo in ult form, one of the few times armor shred can't be inflicted (not that Kylo is in this conquest but he could be and has been before).
