I don't really have any issues still climbing to the top spot every day, I don't think RNG totally rules the roost. I do, however, agree it's very boring playing the same mirror match over and over and over every day...
I actually ran a Thrawn fleet for a while that could easily destroy the Home One fleets but I dropped so badly on defense it just made me play the same fleets over and over and over even more. So now I run a home one fleet, drop less and play the same mirror matches less.
