I blame chopper for my dislike of phoenix!

Dislike of farming and leveling up phoenix seems to be a rather common theme and it got me thinking on why, and for me personally it's Chopper! Mine is currently only 56, 6* and I just hit purple gear so maybe it's different higher up, but he hits like a wet noodle and tanks worse than Zeb! Kanan out-tanks him so hard and even Hera pumps out more damage!

Obviously he has his positives, a rapid cooldown taunt to save Ezra/Hera/Zeb, a shared self heal, random ally buffs for every AA which makes the little kitten a great addition to the phoenix squad, I just wish he could take more damage. For example I find myself not wanting to use his taunt if Hera isn't close to her turn for backup plan because of the numerous times he's been 100-0 before I even had a chance to use it.

Like I said, I totally see his value, it just doesn't change the fact that I would sub in Sabine in a heartbeat if her farm didn't take FOREVER.

So how about the rest of you, do you like or dislike phoenix and why?

Seems like a few of you didn't bother to read the entire post, I covered all of the reasons why chopper IS useful and even reiterated my understanding of his use but that I just don't find him interesting. The question wasn't why is chopper good, it's why do others dislike Phoenix

Honestly, I've never really seen anyone say that they dislike Phoenix in game. They are a solid dependable squad who has uses in multiple areas of the game and can be considered basically meta for low end or new players. They make good defenders in TW, are required for special missions and to unlock one of the games best characters (and his ship). What's not to like?

Funny, I love chopper, his kit is great. I love Sabine, I have her zetad. They are both fun. :)

The worst thing is they all seem to want the same gear, yikes.

Yeah gearing them is frustrating, every time I finish a piece of equipment I have to compare stats and decide who to equip ha!

I like Choppers kit, he offers a ton of support no doubt about it, I just focus on his negatives during the fight for some reason. I can't figure out why he seems so squishy and I'm pretty sure he and barriss are in a competition for who can do the least amount of damage

It is my fav from Phenix, it can work in other teams too, it makes a great trio with ATF and Leia, it's random different buffs + Leia's feed ATF special. It works good with droids too adding buffs while it assists.
  • He's not great at low gear levels, but he adds a ton of survivability to that team which is great for GW and LS TB. While the ships aren't necessarily arena worthy, they can also help out in TW and LS TB. Overall, I have zero regrets keeping Phoenix up. At Level 83 and have missed only one GW.

He really starts to shine once you get his Unique is omega'd. Protection up on damage basically means that some percentage of almost all attacks are nullified. And once he starts assisting he starts throwing around buffs like Oprah.

I use both Phoenix ships in arena. Top 5 usually.

My dislike of Phoenix comes from how much you miss out on by not farming them (and making it an early priority). I mean, if you don't have a fully formed and upgraded Phoenix squad, you're probably going to fall way behind the rest of your shard in the arena, and miss out on a lot of great characters and events. You're almost forced to use them early on.

That, and the fact that I don't watch Rebels (though I hear good things) and therefore don't have any attachments to the characters themselves.

I'm a fairly early game player (I run two accounts at lvl 77 and 47) and when I go to do a LS or cantina battle, my "borrow a hero" screen gives me a choice of 10-15 Hera Syndullas because that's all anybody at the lower levels runs.

As far as Chopper goes, he's actually my favourite Phoenix toon because he's a droid which means he's actually usable outside of Phoenix (and Ezra, of course).

I can relate to that! I purposely use other characters whenever possible in my light side and cantina node farming so people have other characters to choose from. My typical light side battles squad is Ezra, Zeb, Kanan, Chopper, and Sabine because I know I'll almost always be able to add Hera and have complete Phoenix synergy.

I understand. I was just trying to highlight all the many reasons why it is the case. Maybe your frustration might be more focused on the fact that there aren't any other real choices for a newer player who wants to be competitive. Phoenix handily beats any other early to mid game set up so you are "forced" to go that route if you wish to be competitive. That at least is a choice you can make. You can choose to be willing to NOT top your arena and NOT get the newest and shiniest toys. All about how you want to interact with the game and what you truly enjoy from it. If you want to farm THAT character because it is THAT character then do so. You just have to not be disappointed if it also isn't very valuable to have on your bench. You didn't farm him for that reason.
  • Chopper has lots of uses but hes actually really good as a main tank paired with R2 in a CLS GAT R2 team. I only have him G9 but he is easy to get to 200+ speed can taunt first, survive a wiggs or CLS open and he speeds up R2.

Also, he is a monster with Phoenix and they are very very hard to kill with him. I use him and Sabine instead of Ezra and use Ezra with Rebels or Jedi.

Also he is an awesome character in Rebels, if it matters.
