I'd thought it would be cool to do sonething like OP suggested previoisly,seen similar in other games. Then came 85 and the mystery box so I can't complain.
It would be nice to have something little as a reward after every say 10k xp though. Bit of incentive to use those refreshes when you just can't get RNG on your side for drops. At least youd know you where about to "prestige" as OP suggets.
Id go for exclusive currency for a rare gear shop, even give a bit everytine you level as an aid for newbies catching up
