Is Echo essential to a clone team?
I have Rex at 6*. I would like to ask clone experts whether it would be better to get him to 7* via shipments and use him with 5's in a hybrid team (a combination of Leia, Rey, RG, ST Han, Phasma), or...

Since my Rey and Leia are only g9 I haven't tried them, but I really like CS, he crits fairly often with his basic and that gives him 50% TM. That means he goes more often than a Rey or Leia and his AoE TM reduction procs reasonably reliable. In summary I don't think I would replace him permanently but once I get an mk6 nubian DT I could try Rey and let you know.

Absolutely agree on Echo's utility! I omega'd his AoE yesterday to have the CD a bit shorter for GW and tomorrow I'll get his unique to level 8 so I get double the heals ;)
