OK, I run a full Rogue One team so here is what I can tell you... What would be the point of increasing max protection if there is no way to recover it? If there is not a way to recover it, then increasing it during battle is basically useless. I would rather have use Cassian's Zeta instead of Jyn's... assuming that I was not interested in running full R1 squad.
