Leader ability when they die

I always thought that when your leader dies, their ability continues until the end of the battle. I saw people who back this up as well but then others who say when they are defeated it stops. Can someone please clarify this?

Also same question with Phoenix squad and their abilities (as hera's leader ability allows them to share unique's with each other, does this continue when someone dies?)
  • leader abilities continue after death.

Phoniex uniques does not share after death. (After losing Kannan u get no counter chance)
  • "Each active Phoenix ally grants their Unique ability to other Phoenix allies. In addition, whenever a Phoenix ally uses a special ability, they gain 20% Turn Meter if Hera is active. This effect is doubled for Phoenix allies with less than full Health."

Each active Phoenix ally grants their Unique ability to other Phoenix allies: doesnt stop, but if kanan dies, his unique stop cauz it said ACTIVE phnx ally
In addition, whenever a Phoenix ally uses a special ability, they gain 20% Turn Meter if Hera is active: this stops cauz it specifically says "if hera is active"

leader abilities dont stop working when the leader dies.
ie: qgj zeta, even after qgj dies, killing a unit spreads foresight etc.
rebels under wedge lead still heal and gain tm on crit
rebels under cls still counter even when cls dies
    etc etc
  • Leader abilities persist for the duration of an encounter, including after the leader dies. The only exception are those where they specify active allies or leaders for some elements eg. Hera's.

However, if you kill a leader, but not all the rest of the squad in either galactic war or territory war then when you go back in to fight them the next time there will be no active leader ability.

Hmmm, interesting. I could have sworn that the remaining toons are not sharing after I eliminate Hera. I will have to watch their exact behavior closely today.

In any case, removing Hera first definitely removes her Backup Plan ability aka rez which is a royal pain in the backside.

The part of Hera's leadership that allows all living Phoenix allies to share their unique abilities (only the unique abilities of the living allies are shared) remains after she dies. The part about gaining the extra TM doesn't.
  • It would appear that you are correct YKMisfit. Facing a mixed team in GW I dispatched Hera first, then turned to Ezra who counter-attacked. Darn.

I still stand by dispatching Hera first to remove her rez capability. The only thing worse than facing 5 Pheonix is effecrively facing 6 or more. (5 starting + x rezzes)

I shall definitely be re-evaluating my other targeting priorities though.
  • If you're doubting your ability to beat a team in GW, unless someone is critically high damage, or can completely neuter your ability to output damage (Tarkin w/ Intimidation Tactics), always kill the leader first.
