Lets hear some outside the box thinking!

because it seems everyone has only the exact same cookie cutter thoughts. Be honest with yourselves when you consider this topic folks because it's not a bad topic or wrong to admit the truth. Is there anyone besides Jedi teams that can be top 20 without palpatine? Second question, do people admit the only reason people are as high as they are in squad arena is because of palpatine alone and the overpowered mass stun people rely on completely? They go out of their way to mod theirs in even a tortured way without a single complete mod set just for speed alone to ensure he gets the mass stun off. Is strategy gone completely from this game now? It's just a matter of who can speed mod their palpatine the best? My favorite toons in the genre and game are SITH and have always been SITH... but EA has screwed up badly imho with palpatine and there is not a single toon that comes close to how everpowered it is.

  • Palp is not overpowered, he just fits well into the current meta. Per the only real meta report we have:

    https://swgoh.gg/meta-report/10/

If you scroll down you will see 'all characters'. This is for all swgoh-reported teams rank 1-10 at their respective payout. Palp is on 56% of arena teams currently that fit that criteria. That is a pretty high percentage, but it's no different than metas that we have seen in the past. Rey was that high, Wiggs was that high, and Lando was that high at their respective peaks. This too shall pass when the next meta rolls in.

There are plenty of teams that can do well without running EP. If EP is being jammed into every team, then it must be a somewhat new server.

Examples of other teams that can do well:

    R1 team
    FO
    Resistance
    Jedi
    Bounty Hunters
    Clones

    and others

  • I run a zader team without EP and rank in the top 10 daily of my December 15 shard. The top 20 is 17/20 zaul (with EP) and two Rex (with EP). Yeah of course EP will go first and possibly stub my whole team... But then I get to play and I destroy them.
You're right it's all about speed though. Was the same with ST Han, the fastest was the winner. But now even if I never get the first moves I'm still able to win, if that can confort you...

Good point and that's for the reply. It is true, I was #3 ranked earlier today until Jose iN dudes spent crystal like crazy to get all the top spots. Basically a lot of whales on my shard. All of them save perhaps one ran EP. Was always the mass stun that was key. They whale their mods KF course too and stack potency to counter high tenacity. It is what it is, but I'll be glad when the imbalance of the speed stat is finally addressed. :D

Yeah I just gotta 7* my nihilus and sith assassin for my ZAUL team and work on some tenacity mods.

This is ultimately the issue, and it's because of those whales that dominate yours and everyone else's shards that it won't change.

I hit a wall around #20 in my shard. The speed present in the Top 20 is unreal. Multiple toons 30 speed faster than my best on a single squad. Mostly all 7 star toons. Some G10 toons.

But the speed is definitely an issue. And that won't change, because it's a money maker.

It's a shame they don't simply cap the speed and at that point it literally becomes who has the best combo of toons and % other abilities in the rolls become a factor. It is nothing but speed right now. Obviously EA isn't an actual fan of gaming or they would care how dumbed down they are letting what should be serious effort a ton of fun. The top five in my shard are all the same guild who will literally spend out the backside just to refresh their SA attempts until they knock others out. Pretty aggravating tbh. Wish they would open up more shards and spread those consolidated whales out of it!
  • It literally has all boiled down to speed and who has palpatine. Couple good Jedi teams but at least on my shard there is a consistent theme that is almost without exception. There is so much room for depth in this game, it speaks to the lack of quality of game design that it so easily boils down to one or two things. This game could be Chess and they willfully have made it checkers.
