Taking the right approach?

Currently I'm trying to make a fun team around gar saxon. I have vader, tarkin, royal guard and tie fighter pilot with him now. I was thinking something more like shore trooper, range trooper, and either snow or magma until I can get death trooper. The 5th for that team will be dooku, because I want to have fun watching all the counters. Any suggestions for a gar/counter team for fun are welcome. Im working on an ewok team, and slowly starting a clone/shaak ti team. I'll never have teams with the likes of commander luke Skywalker, revan, and so on btw. Zone in on Phoenix totally (which I think your are slow-farming atm). Then, get Thrawn and EP, pair it up with your Vader, Tarkin and TFP (ditch Saxon and Royal Guard for now). Empire can get you R2. R2, Farmboy Luke (you already have @ 3*), Princess Leia (you already have @ 3*), Old Ben, ST Han for CLS. Then, zone in on Seps (Geos) for Padme

I don't really have the time to answer all of your questions, but forget the Gar Saxon idea. He LOOKS good and his kit seems very good, but in reality it isn't at all...

Your question about powering up your teams is a good one though.
In fact, I wouldn't spread myself too thin.
It's better to gear and star up a few goods teams who lead to other characters (ex: Phoenix leads to Thrawn and Palp) than to make 10 mediocre teams.

GW is a good place for income, but don't strive to get it too much, while you're missing out on other (more important) progress.
You'll get there eventually...

Imperial troopers are fun to play and will help you in territory battles/wars. However, they work better under Veers lead and with Starck in the team.

For your Vader team you should aim for using Emperor Palpatine instead of Saxon. Palpatine, Vader, RG, Tarkin and TFP work well together - better than with Saxon lead. Later you can add Thrawn as well to make your team even stronger. If you keep building your Phoenix team they will make you able to unlock both EP and Thrawn. Since you already began farming them my advice would be to continue until you have a full Phoenix team at 7*. To unlock a 7* Thrawn the team will need to be g8-g9ish.

When you have your Phoenix and Empire team you have everything you need to complete Galactic War every day until you can sim it. Also, when continue from there you are actually not far from unlocking Commander Luke Skywalker (CLS).

I noticed that you've farmed nightssisters a bit too.That's another fun team to play. However, they are not required to unlock any legendary characters, so only farm them if they are fun to play for you as well.

Thanks for the input fellas. Also, I've read how doing x thing puts you closer to y. How does Phoenix lead to Palpatine and thrawn, also leading up to commander luke Skywalker? I haven't seen the tie ins in game.

With the nightsisters, I love using them. I feel like they are a troll team as I beat teams at 18k and 20k power in the arena with them (being a gnats ass under 15k.) I saved my crystals and saw an opportunity thanksgiving day to get and power up zombie and spirit with the bonuses. The teams i avoid with them are the ones with kylo since he seems to take no damage from plague. Otherwise, vader/dooku/ben/phoenix/etc. get loaded up with plague.

With y'alls advice, I may just do a veers imperial trooper team, but will probably still keep gar saxon around for when I feel like watching an aggro team with him and the troopers. What should I put with veers and starck, range, shore and death? Death trooper will be a long ways off, until I get it, what would work?

You need 5 phoenix specifically to unlock Thrawn, and 5 rebels to unlock palpatine. You can see that if you go to the journey guide click on the character and then click activity and the characters that you have to use show up.

You will see the tie ind if you click on the "objectives" button in-game (lower right corner in the cantina) and then choose the "Journey guide" tab.



Here you will find the requirements for unlocking various legendary/journey characters f.ex. Palpatine (any 5 rebels), Thrawn (any 5 of the 6 Phoenix characters - they are all rebels as well), R2D2 (any 5 empire characters) and Commander Luke Skywalker (R2D2, Stormtrooper Han, Leia, Old Ben and Farmboy Luke). This path is often recommended for starting players. Another legendary character to aim for is Grand Master Yoda (GMY) which requires 5 jedi to unlock. Old Ben is a jedi and 2 of the Phoenix characters (Ezra and Kanaan) are jedi as well. At some point in the future you will want to farm Old Republic characters to unlock Jedi Knight Revan. 2 of those (Bastilla Shan and Jolee) are jedi as well. Those 5 jedi will easily unlock GMY.

Yeah, Nightsisters are fun to play and have several fun mechanics (plague, stuns, endless horde etc.). And yes, they struggle against teams with lots of self healing (like First Order like you already experienced) since healing up to 100% health will remove plague.

Those 5 are all you really need. Snow Trooper is good as well. You can slow farm snow from bronzium packs and only farm his node if you really want to invest the resources. Piett is the newest Trooper, but I still didn't use him in a Trooper team, so I don't have any advice there (he's often used together with Vader rather than with troopers). At some point (level 80 or 85, I believe) you will gain access to zeta ability mats. A zeta on Veers' leader ability will make your troopers even more fun to play. But use those mats with care. There are lots of strong and fun abilities to zeta when you reach that stage in the game.

All this aside, chose the path and teams which are the most fun for you to play.

To answer your first question on gw , you can gear your Phoenix team to the point of getting thrawn and it shouldn't hurt you in gw. Phoenix has health and protection regen which is great for gw and can handle most of what you'll see.

I would suggest that once you unlock ep and thrawn at 5 stars to keep your empire team roughly on par with your Phoenix or even let it get stronger. Ep does far better in arena than Phoenix and they can handle the teams Phoenix struggles against in gw.

My strategy on my alt was to auto any easy teams in gw were with Phoenix and then use ep to take out any teams that Phoenix couldn't or were annoying (mirror matches). And I only had like two days that I couldn't clear the last node before I could sim it.

As for gar Saxon, he's trash. I wouldn't waste any gear on him.

The best path as I see it is for ftp

1. Phoenix
2. Switch to ep lead with thrawn, vader, tarkin, and dark Bastilla
3. Unlock the revans and malak
4. Then go for GL palps

Along the way you'll have an excellent troopers team since veers, stark, and piett are all req for GL palps. Then you only need two others. I recommend shore trooper and range trooper.

Technically you could go GL palp without going Darth revan and malak first but you will need some high quality with to use with him anyway.

Nothing wrong with hoarding gear. If you are completing GW, you can sim it after you have beat it manually a number of times, I think it is 50, but I really don't remember. Once GW is simmable, gear and star up and move to your next objective.
