Thoughts on IG-100 Magnaguard?

No. 100 is not a good toon. He is hellaciously slow and with all teh Dooku, Jedi teams out there, the last thing you want from a tank is slowness. He lacks a taunt, his counter seems broken and i believe he lacks any potentcy that would allow his basic debuff to land consistently. He is fine to fill out a starter team if you just started the game and got a pull, but if you are going to invest energy into getting a tank, the best tanks are Royal Guard(very long grind though with only hard nodes but his auto taunt and huge HP is a godsend), Poe(relatively easy to get through cantina tokens and hard nodes, very fast toon with quick taunt and debuffs) and Stormtrooper Han(not too hard to get either if you do arena and has a good skill set for turn meter manipulation).

OK well bummer... I'm still fairly new to the game (level 63); I am farming RG, will have him 5* in the next day or two. Right now I mostly need another tank for the challenges. Was hoping it would be magna after I pulled him cos he looks so cool lol

I believe someone has a topic right now on the tank Challenge. You might want to give that a look. Magna guard is fine for the challenge but i couldn't recommend putting resources into him.

MG100 is not as slow as he appears on the stats sheet. He does generate his own speed up. He synergies best on a droid team...particularly with HK 47 as leader. On my team when he gets picked on and counters a few times and critical hits he gets on a roll and hits and hits and hits.

As of this moment, can't see much of a use for him unless you are gonna go droid team. And if that is the case, then you should level him up. Droid teams are nice and can get you #1 in some servers. I run one and am frequently top 10.

I am sorry, but i disagree on recommending 100 for a droid team. He brings nothing to your team and forces you to give up a spot. The OP was talking about using 100 as a tank, that alone just wont work as he lacks a taunt. Heck, Daka makes a better tank than 100 as at least people will focus her first.

I run a droid team as well and can snipe #1 on good days. I run 47(L)- 86 - 88 - GS - Poe(sometimes i will use poggle instead of 47 as lead). The problem with 100 is that anything he does, the other droids are better at. AOE? 88 has it. extra attacks? 86 and GS generate them as assists and hit much harder. The droid team is a rough go now because we suck against all these speed teams. If you recommend using 100, who do you get rid of? You need 88/86, and you need, 100% need a tank, so either RG or Poe. And you need either Poggle or 47 as Lead. That leaves booting out possibly the highest damaging toon in the game in GS.

I am sorry, he looks good on paper, but i see absolutely no reason to level 100 past 4 stars and level 50'ish so you can use him on the tank challenge. All those resources could better be used starring up RG or Poe as they are needed in a droid team as real tanks and also work well in other teams.

I think I wasn't clear in my OP; I was really asking about leveling him up just for the challenge.... My main tank is RG

I think in similar pattern.

He can fill an otherwise empty spot in the tank challenge. That's about it.

I like my droids so gave my 7* magnaguard a try today hitting gear 9. As others say, in the Tank challenge, he's good at applying offence down, so great pair with RG to shut down Mace. In the arena, he's so-so now at gear 9. Great turn meter gain with HK and also gains on dodge with AOE which is plenty against a Dooku led team. I showed a video that included a close fight vs. Dooku. Have other ones where I win with 4 standing, also vs. Dooku, but this one is closer and many RNG against me so probably more interesting.

If anything, I enjoy as the only droid team in the top 20 in the sea of Dooku. : ) I think @Reyia would be proud of this. :smile:
