She does need the bonus protection, yes, but since she loses it at the end of her turn either way, using her AoE isn't going to cause her to lose out on much of it, especially if 3 or more enemies aren't full health, so you gain full TM. Is it optimal for a slow Nest? Probably not. Will it ruin a slow Nest? Nope. Does it open up other options for you if your needs change later in the game? Absolutely. Nest is incredibly versatile, and when fast she makes a nasty 5th that people don't expect for BH and NS, to name a couple.
