I'm not certain its "poor balancing" related to mods. I'm pretty sure its intentional. It think it makes them a lot of money. I'm guessing if mods 3.0 comes as rumored, it will make them more.
I have always spent a lot of time on farming mods before 2.0 and had some decent ones, but have not taken advantage of slicing very much. My best set is about +145 and I have a +140. After that its pretty average. I don't see myself ever having a +160 set.
They did say they were going to try to reduce reliance on speed but I havet seen it. They have made other stats more useful, but speed is still king.
I REALLY want them to release a plug and play tank who provides a 1 turn damage immunity and tenacity up at the start of battle. That will stifle some of the hyper-speed teams.
Of course, then you end up with said tank being basically a requirement because there are already so many lightspeed teams out there. And now speed is no longer king, but you only get to choose teams of four instead of five because you need Invincible Tank Guy as a safeguard against ultra-fast Revans and whatnot.
Introducing speed on mods in the first place was a terrible idea, because obviously "going first and getting more turns than your opponent" was always going to be the biggest possible advantage. Well, terrible from a gameplay perspective. In terms of "getting people to spend crystals because the only way to get speed mods is sacrifices to RNGesus" I'm sure it was a phenomenal move.
At this point the only way I can think to fix it would be to change the speed stat so that there's some element of chance to it, such that it increases the amount of TM you CAN gain per "tick" or whatever, but there's some variance to it. Or at the very least put some kind of diminishing return on speed so that stacking it past a certain amount grants progressively less turn meter.
It'd still be a flawed system, but it would make speed less essential, and I'd take that over "if your Fallen Bastila is faster than the other guy's team, you win automatically."
