It's a pity that the workaround came from other players, but anyway, it is a fix!
What's more sad I think, is the lack of communication. On a game like this, up 24/7, bugs can happen, especially during major updates. Everyone is angry with it, but I think that everyone can understand it. What gives fuel to the rage of most players is the emptiness of the response given by the support.
"We know there is a bug, we investigate it" is kind of light when the game pushes the player to play more, to invest more in time and money. Maybe some hour by hour status update, even saying "we are still investigating, sorry, it's a big mess and it takes times"(with meme ;-) ) each hour, to give the players some communication, so they feel that someone acknowledge their problem would help a lot.
In this instance, the problem was acknowledge late (But I know, there is the problem of time zones), with few messages to keep the players informed, and when a fix was finally found, it didn't even came from the support.
In this instance, my feeling is that players are let down by the support.
But it is also the kind of problem that could generate a good buzz, if well manage ; "Big bug on SWGOH, but staff is top level and keeping people informed". Good information, quick (or at least, as quick as possible) feedback, some meme to make people smile and, if possible, a quick easy solution (I've posted about a rollback earlier).
And of course, compensation!
Your call on the next problem (which I hope will never happen), but I really think more communication would help!
