How to fix your Chimera event bug

Product: Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes
Platform:Android Phone
What type of device are you experiencing the issue with? Galaxy S7
OS Version N/A
Ally Code: (Find it here: http://bit.ly/AllyCode ) 959927293
What type of issue do you have? Gameplay
How often does the bug occur? Every time (100%)
Summarize your bug PLEASE READ IN ENTIRETY! Recommendation: Eliminate the requirement to need 145 shards to activate Chimaera. Discussion: I realize you think you already addressed this bug sufficiently, but you haven't. The gaming community is upset. So if you can't or are unwilling to take Chiramera away from people who did not legitimately earn it. Then to make it more fair for everyone, allow people to activate Chimaera as low as 1 star. This still wont make everyone happy, because you cant refund spent crystals, energy, money, etc...but this is a step to mitigate an advantage people have gained from exploiting the bug.
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? I should be obvious

    Hiya,

While players were able to access the event with 3 ships, the difficulty for this event was tuned for 5 which met intention. We realize this was not ideal and apologize for this hiccup. However, we will be addressing this for future events of this type to ensure this does not happen again.

  • I have a much, much, much better idea. None of that "everybody gets a boost except for the people who completed the event legitimately." If fake Chimaeras aren't going to be removed, then add a hardware slot to Chimaera and add a bonus tier to the event. The bonus tier is exactly the same as the current final tier.

Run the event again immediately. Actually enforce the requirements. This is the key. Double check it and triple check it before sending the update out to the players. Enforce the requirements, enforce the requirements, enforce the requirements.

The reward for completing the bonus tier? A piece of ship hardware that enables a 7* Chimaera's fleet to absolutely, instantaneously obliterate any other Chimaera-led fleet that doesn't have that piece of ship hardware. The Chimaera without the hardware doesn't stand a chance. The hardware is designed to 100% ensure this under all circumstances (attacking, defending, whatever).

What does the hardware do, exactly? How about this. Whenever any ship uses any ability, the hardware inflicts Fracture on the enemy Chimaera's entire fleet for 1000 turns. At the same time, the hardware provides all allies with total immunity to Fracture. This special version of Fracture also incorporates the features of Deathmark.

The hardware only works against other Chimaera fleets and has no effect against non-Chimaera fleets.

Now the fake Chimaeras are sorted from the real Chimaeras without removing anybody's ships. People who evaded the requirements get to keep their fake Chimaeras unlocked at their current star ratings, but they are reduced to garbage whenever they battle a real 7* Chimaera.

And it remains that way until the users of the fake Chimaeras qualify to complete the event legitimately. If they don't like automatic losses, they can complete the requirements. Or they can switch back to their other capital ships and permanently retire their fake Chimaeras to digital paperweight status.
  • Funny idea. However, this only works for 7* Chimaeras. People who rightfully unlocked her at 5 or 6* but cannot finish the last tier yet would be punished by your approach as well, if I understand it correctly. And with your approach, the bug users would still profit from their "fake" Chimaeras against people who did not exploit the bug and could not get Chimaera at all.
Also, the advantage gained is not only in PvP but also in TB (by GP and the Chimaera special mission in DSTB).
I'm still in favor of removing Chimaeras gained by bug-using.

    Hiya,

  • Here is an example of an unnamed player who has long been able to sit among the top ranks of my Fleet Arena leaderboard while pouring his resources into completely different items for Squad Arena.

The line about it being unlikely that a player can complete the event without a fleet of strong ships is a farce. G9 Ackbar. G11 Biggs. G8 Phoenix. The rest of his ship slots sat empty when he defeated the 6* tier.

It's all well and good that we have a promise the event will run correctly in subsequent repeats. But at one moment on the 2nd day of the current event, I counted 6 unearned Chimaeras in the top 50. That did not include others which may be unlocked in the remaining days, or others which might have been ranked outside of the top 50. More than 10% of the ranks that matter enough to be displayed like an honor roll. Maybe 10% qualifies as unlikely to some people, but it's not small enough for me to ignore it.

That's damage already done. Damage that needs undoing. An ongoing competition widely tainted with significant unearned advantages. Those are people whom I may be playing against for months to come, since the arena ladders are persistent.

To dismiss this as a matter of choice. Oh, they can choose to play the event without all of the recommended ships. Truly outrageous.

It's supposed to be a requirement. A gate that prevents people from playing if they don't qualify. Not just a helpful suggestion. Those of us who fulfilled the requirements labored for months under the belief that it was a requirement because the game and its developers told us all along that it was a requirement. If I am going to fulfill announced requirements in order to make progress, and my adversaries are going to be gifted the same long term progress by accident at the very same time without fulfilling the requirements, and they're allowed to retain that progress after the error is discovered... why am I even bothering to log in and patronize this game? That's pretty much the definition of a game which lacks the integrity to protect its own basic premise and lacks respect for the players who abide by the rules & pursue the goals within the prescribed boundaries.

I understand that CG_Kozispoon may only be relaying the reply to us that she has been instructed to give us. But it is a terribly conceived and deeply unsatisfying reply, no matter who conceived it.

    CG_Kozispoon,
Based on your response that the event was tuned for 5 ships, I strongly disagree. So strongly that it makes me wonder if you even play.

Of course. If the fake Chimaeras went away, so too would the complaints about them.

The non-action by EA to fix this issue by removing chimaera gained from exploiting the bug is UNBELIEVABLE & UNACCEPTABLE. Turning a blind eye leaves a bad taste on everyones mouth. Definitely not buying any more EA games across all platforms or spending money in these games!
  • @CG_Kozispoon

Can you please clarify how "met intention" is sufficient validity to allow for players who obtained the Chimaera while not meeting the previously stated requirements? It is my understanding that the requirement of five rebel ships and home one at the appropriate star levels was part of the original intent of the event. Can we assume that going forward if we don't meet the requirements, but have characters geared enough to meet the difficulty that the event is tuned for we can obtain the rewards? Sounds ludicrous to me.

Also, you asked in a previous thread for people to PM you in the forums if they would like to discuss this further. I've done so and gotten no response. My message still sits in the swgoh forums awaiting a chance to discuss this further.

Lastly, preventing the problem from reoccurring is indeed commendable. However, it must be coupled with reparations to those harmed by the initial error. It appears that CG/EA is deciding to skip over that step in the process. Might we get some insight as to why that is the case?

    Thanks
