There was a previous post about this that was "answered".  Nope, not helpful.

This is not fun. Dozens of attempts, same results.  Sometimes JJB has death mark, sometimes not.  Sometimes Maul has advantage, sometimes not.  Every once in a while Maul will AOE and JJB survives.  Most of the time he dies immediately.  This has been a ridiculous waste of time after months of farming and gearing 

I've watched YouTube videos where maul attacks numerous times and JJB is not installed.

Again, this does not make for a fun event, where it is either bugged, or so incredibly RNG dependent on a mission provided character that I can't improve.
